See A Need, Fill A Need
At a trade organization meeting, we learned about a situation where a local women’s shelter desperately needed concrete repair. We were more than happy to help with the project.
“In a time when many people are stepping up to support each other by finding needs and filling them, we feel privileged to donate our time, talent and resources,” said Joe Keller, President and COO of HEXA™- A McDonald Company.
Sacred Heart House of Denver helps homeless single women and single mothers regain self-sufficiency through transitional housing and education programs. However, recently they became in dire need of assistance themselves. Over the years, heavy garbage trucks and other usage had substantially damaged the entry way and trash collection areas at Sacred Heart House. The freeze-thaw cycles in Colorado had caused the damage to worsen over time and the conditions were no longer attractive or safe.
“Funding has been increasingly challenging. The City of Denver ended financial support and foundation grant money has been reduced. Sacred Heart House now relies on smaller awards from foundations, grants from churches, and support from loyal individual donors. The recent, unprecedented situation with which we are all dealing has made those challenges even greater,” explained Sacred Heart House of Denver’s Associate Director, Garrett Singer.
The HEXA team was quick to respond, removing the concrete in the entry way and trash areas. Then we installed an 8-inch thick slab that will better stand up to the usage those areas receive.
Mike McDonald, HEXA Founder & CEO, said, “It was an opportunity to repair more than concrete. We were honored to be able to help a group that does so much to change the lives of people in Denver who are struggling. Giving enriches the life of the giver as much as that of the recipient.”
